Peggy Sirota Inspired Mock Magazine Shoot

So if you've had the chance to read my previous blog post, then you will know about the project I'm currently engrossed in. I decided to jump straight in with some studio photography and create a mock magazine cover.

The whole aim of this part of the project was to show the character as being famous and successful by appearing on the cover of a magazine. Only thing I had to do now was find some inspiration for the shoot so I did a quick internet search of GQ magazine covers

The one cover that stood out for me was the Ryan Reynolds cover by Peggy Sirota. What I really liked about the images I found was how natural the images looked. It showed a lot of personality and character. They also made Reynolds appear classy but casual at the same time.
I also think that by having the images in colour there isn't a sense that these images need to be serious, it's more about the individual's personality being a key factor as well as his expression and body language.

When I finished my shoot I was spoilt for choice when it came to what images I would pick to be the cover image. In the end I decided to produce two covers because I just couldn't decide which ones to choose! If you prefer one 'cover' to the other then feel free to tell me what you do/don't like!

Now I did edit my images slightly differently to how the original covers were edited but that was mainly because I wasn't trying to create an imitation of Sirota's GQ covers, I used them more as a guideline.

So my favourite cover is the one on the left. To me it appears more of a traditional cover and the image seems more similar to a likely GQ inspired cover. The reason I like the second one is because it seems more 'full'. There's less neutral space in this image meaning it catches your eye more. I also like the eye contact the model has with the audience in both images.

I didn't just stop there though! Oh No! I carried on editing some images that would be used as an inside spread (if the magazine existed that is!). Generally the images found inside magazines are more personal, serious and usually in black and white because that's where you would find a personal or slightly intrusive article about the celebrity in question. I also added some seriously cliché-style 'quotes' the character supposedly said during the interview.

Well those are the final images from my 1st shoot of the project! I'll be keeping you up to date with my latest new pics, there will also be the odd lifestyle blog from time to time too just to keep things fresh!
